Don’t look now, but Spring is getting closer with each passing day. Before you know it, Delaware and Maryland’s coastal regions will once again be teeming with activity as the warm weather season takes center stage at the beaches.
And if you have a home that’s currently on the market, or are considering listing your home for sale in the coming weeks, then you know that this is a prime buying season at and near the Delaware and Maryland beaches.
You want to take advantage of this time of year, which gives you the unique opportunity for getting your home in front of a greater number of potential buyers. But to do so, you need to make sure your home is in tip top shape for the Spring buying season.
There are several ways to put out the very best “welcome mat” possible for your home. Here are a few of our favorites:
Conduct A Thorough Spring Cleaning. Get the whole family involved and give your home the best cleaning it’s ever had. Or if you don’t feel you can do it yourself, scope out a great cleaning company to come out and do it for you. Don’t leave anything untouched when going through this process, but take the opportunity to really make your home shine for the Spring. Clean the windows and floors, vacuum all of the carpets, clean the cupboards and countertops. Clean everything you can get your hands on, before people begin coming by to take a look at your home.
Let In Some Fresh Air. During the winter months, your home can become a bit damp and dusty due to everything being closed up for a few months. So open up those windows and get rid of any weird smells that have built up over the winter. When doing so, keep an eye out for any mold or mildew that might have accumulated on windows, window frames and lights. These should be cleaned thoroughly during your Spring cleaning process.
Declutter, Declutter, Declutter! If people are coming to look at your home, the last thing they want to see is a bunch of clutter. And Spring is a great time for getting rid of stuff you don’t want or need, as well as putting excess items in storage until your home is sold. Make things as clean and neat as possible, just as you would like it to be if you were the one searching for a new home.
Clean Up Outside. Spring is a great time for attending to the yard, the gardens and anything else outside that’s been lying dormant during the winter months. Get outside and so some weeding, remove any dead plants, add some mulch to different areas and just generally make your home look as good on the outside as it does on the inside.
Take Some Photos. If you put your home up for sale during the winter months, this is a great time to retake those photos when flowers and trees are in bloom and everything is just bursting with color. And if you’ve recently put your home on the market, get those photos taken while everything is looking bright and vibrant. Just be sure that everything is neat and clean before the photographer shows up.
Take Care Of Any Maintenance Issues. If you’ve noticed any peeling paint, dirty carpets, cracked tiles or missing shingles on the roof during the winter, then this is the perfect time to attend to those things. Give your home a quick once-over and attend to any small issues that prospective buyers might notice when touring your home and property. It’s also not a bad idea to have someone who doesn’t live in the home take a quick walk through, as he or she might notice something that you and your family doesn’t.
