Life is made up of a series of countless choices, each one capable of sending you off in search of new challenges and new experiences. As such, it’s important to take a step back from time to time and evaluate those decisions and what they’re going to mean for you in the long term.
Too often in life, people get caught up in determining why they’re doing this or doing that. And while this is certainly an important question to ask, just as important is nailing down the when, the where and the who you’re going to be sharing your life experiences with.
At the Oldfather Group, we feel very fortunate to earn a living in what we feel is one of the finest places in the United States to do so. Living life at the Delaware and Maryland beaches may not be for everyone, but we can’t think of anywhere else we’d rather be.
Real estate is bought and sold all over the world, but we’ve made the choice to lay down roots in coastal Delaware. And we’ve never regretted that decision for a moment.
We feel very fortunate to have made the American Dream of homeownership come true for thousands of families over the last decade-and-a-half, while also growing our team and expanding our business interests.
We decided that the “where” was as important to us as anything else. But determining your goals in life and how to get there is something that’s unique for every single person.
Oldfather Group Founder and CEO Dustin Oldfather goes into much more detail on this concept below, while also sharing some thoughts from one of his favorite authors.
It’s definitely worth a few minutes of your time. Please click the link below for more.
As you can probably ascertain from the video, Dustin is an avid reader. If he’s not out selling real estate, making local connections and being an involved father of two young girls, it’s safe to say you’ll see him with a book in his hands.
Having just finished “The Infinite Game” by Simon Sinek, Dustin stresses that the importance of loving what we do, but also to consider where we do it and who we do it with.
What good is it to love where you live, but have to wake up every day and go to a job that you hate? Conversely, it’s just as emotionally destructive if you love your job but live in an area you don’t care for.
It’s a balance, and everyone needs to determine for themselves what’s best for them and their families.
Do you have finite goals with a clearly defined end in sight? Or is your goal to continue playing the game for as long as you can and making as big a difference as possible in your life and the lives around you?
As Dustin said in the video: “We don’t need to pigeon hole ourselves into knowing what our why is…We need to remember what game we’re playing and take care of the people we need to take care of.”
Whether it’s in our professional or our personal lives, it all comes down to making the right choices and living the best life we can. Life is short, after all, so make the most of the time you have!
Find something you’re excited about and muster up the energy to follow through on a schedule that’s right for you.
