With 26 miles of Atlantic coastline, the Delaware Bay, three inland bays and an abundance of rivers, lakes and creeks, coastal Delaware certainly has no shortage of options when you feel like enjoying an adult beverage by the water.
So in this blog entry, we've decided to rank our top five spots in coastal Delaware for enjoying your favorite beer or cocktail while watching the moon reflect off the water with good friends, or even a significant other.
As with all of our entries, these locations are in no particular order and are simply OUR favorites. If you agree or disagree with our choices, why not let us know? We know there are many choices; these are simply a quintet of our personal favorites.
So raise your glass and toast us as we go through our list! Here are our selections:
Obie's by the Sea – Located on Rehoboth Beach's fabulous mile-long Boardwalk, Obie's has been around for some time and offers a magnificent view of the ocean while you enjoy your favorite cocktail or even one of the restaurant's fabulous seafood entrees. Wait until the sun goes down and you can also bask in the cool breezes wafting off of the Atlantic, adding to your evening's experience.
On the Rocks – Unwind after a long workday by pulling up a chair and enjoying the ambience at another one of our favorites, "On the Rocks," located at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry terminal. Nestled against the waters of the Delaware Bay, this local favorite offers some of the best water views in the area, near where the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay converge. The bar isn't open all night though, so get there early and enjoy a few early evening cocktails while watching the ferries leave for and return from neighboring New Jersey.
Gilligan's – Now if you're looking for a waterfront bar with some character, there might be no better option in coastal Delaware than Gilligan's Restaurant and Bar, located on the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal near Lewes Beach. Featuring an old fishing boat that was converted into the site's original restaurant in the 1970s, Gilligan's was given some Sussex County flair when an old chicken house was added to the restaurant in later years. Featuring a full bar and a spectacular view, this place must be seen to be fully appreciated. Oh and while you're there, don't forget to try one of their crabcakes. They are to die for!
Que Pasa – Located in Dewey Beach, on the bay, Que Pasa offers a full bar selection, some of the best Mexican food around and spectacular water views. Sit outside under the cantina and relax on the beach, while sipping on your favorite cocktail and enjoying life at the Delaware beaches. An ideal spot for a night out with family and/or friends, Que Pasa will not disappoint. Give it a try the next time you're in the mood for a refreshing margarita on the beach.
Hammerheads Dockside – Located on the bay just a short distance from the picturesque new Indian River Inlet bridge, Hammerheads Dockside features a fabulous backdrop for sitting by the marina and enjoying your favorite beer or cocktail after a hard day's work. Sit with your toes in the sand and your favorite drink in your hand, while unwinding and shooting the breeze with that special someone, or go for a long walk along the moonlit bay while enjoying the moment in time at the Delaware beaches. One word of caution though – Hammerheads doesn't take reservations, so get there early for the best spots. Enjoy!
