We’re one week away from the 2019 Rehoboth Beach Chocolate Festival, which is a sure sign that warmer weather and increased activity at the Delaware beaches can’t be far behind.
But as we ready ourselves for one of the biggest events of the offseason, we also have a number of fun happenings to tell you about for this first weekend of March here in the coastal region.
This weekend’s highlighted events are as varied as the region itself, with activities focused on food, major life events and even the local version of a long-lasting western European tradition.
So keep reading to learn all about what’s happening during the March 1-3 weekend at and near the Delaware beaches.
Here’s Oldfather Group CFO Mariya Oldfather with a quick video preview of this weekend’s highlighted events.
As we head into March, activity is definitely going to begin picking up in the coastal region. And that includes this weekend, with several events that we’re excited to tell you about.
So here are our choices for fun and exciting events during the weekend of March 1-3 at the Delaware and Maryland beaches:
Rehoboth Beach Gumbo Crawl (March 2). With proceeds to benefit the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, the 2019 edition of the Gumbo Crawl will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., on Saturday, March 2, at several locations around the resort.
Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at any of this year’s participating restaurants, including the Purple Parrot, The Pond, Cafe Azafran, Conch Island, Cooter Brown’s La Fable, Mariachi, The Pines, Rigby’s, Rehoboth Ale House and Zogg’s.
With purchase of a ticket, you’ll get a ballot allowing you to vote on your favorite gumbo for 2019. Last year’s top prize went to Cafe Azafran, with a total of $5,000 raised for the fire department.

In addition to the three local events featured above, it’s also a great time of year to take a day trip to locations that are just a short drive away from Delaware’s coastal region.
We wrote a blog some time ago about a few of our favorites, which include ice skating at the Delaware State Fair, a visit to the Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover Air Force Base and the Delaware Children’s Museum in Wilmington.
Read our full blog on “Day Tripping” options in Delaware below, and pick your favorite place to go and visit this offseason.
Whatever you choose to do this weekend, we hope you have a fun and exciting few days in the coastal region.
And be sure to check back here next week in our “Weekender Blog” for more great happenings at and near the Delaware and Maryland beaches.
