No matter where you live in Sussex County, or if you're just visiting the area for a few days, there are plenty of options to choose from on this first weekend of December. With Christmas just a few weeks away, it seems every area town has a way for you to celebrate and enjoy the holiday season.
We're only hitting on a few of the many festive events occurring over the next few days. But these are some of our favorites, and ones that are sure not to disappoint.
So here are our selections for events this weekend in or near coastal Delaware:
Decorating Delmarva HolidayFest (Dec. 4-20). One of Sussex County's most unique holiday events kicks off this week with the fourth annual installment of "Decorating Delmarva," hosted by the Delaware International Speedway in Delmar. This popular community event features food and craft vendors, nightly entertainment, visits with Santa Claus, live reindeer and holiday displays made by several local schools and organizations. A portion of what is made at this event is returned to the community via several charities, schools and other organizations. In the first three years, more than $80,000 has been donated back to the community. For more information on this festive holiday event, visit www.decoratingdelmarva.com.
Lewes in Bloom Christmas Market (Dec. 5). Slated for St. Peter's Church from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, this second annual event features fresh greens, holiday bows and many other handmade items. For more information visit, www.leweschamber.org.
Weekend Wonderland in Bethany (Dec. 5-19). This Saturday, the town of Bethany Beach will host a full day of fun holiday events geared toward the whole family. Start by taking a photo with Santa Claus at the Bethany Fine Arts Gallery and spend the whole day in the resort, culminating with the lighting of the "Tree of Warmth" at 6 p.m., featuring hot chocolate and Christmas carols. These community holiday events are scheduled for the next three Saturdays in Bethany Beach. Visit the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce for more information.
Caroling in the Park (Dec. 4). The city of Seaford rings in the holiday season this year with it's 22nd annual "Caroling in the Park" event, scheduled for Friday night at 7:00 at Gateway Park. The event includes a tree lighting, all your favorite Christmas carols and a canned food drive.
Rehoboth Art League Holiday Open House (Dec. 5). For the sixth consecutive year, the Rehoboth Art League's Corkran, Tubbs and Ventures galleries will be open to the public this Saturday, featuring holiday gift items from art league members, as well as musical performances and a visit from Santa Claus.
